Cork … nature’s foam
We are testing the properties of cork. Our pilot study has brought exciting findings. They suggest that cork has certain mechanical properties superior to other materials, especially in ultralight applications.
Cork is highly flexible, impermeable, elastic and compressible, low in density and low in thermal conductivity values
It is harvested without harming the trees
Each ton of cork fixes about 1.8 tons of CO2.
We are building an outrigger wooden boat, which incorporates cork composite. Cork makes boats extremely light. Also it helps to maintain the demand for cork - by retaining the livelihood of the cork farmers on the Iberian peninsula. This is a threatened ecosystem on which the endangered lynx depends.
The Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) is the world’s most endangered cat.
